Atletico Madrid threatened with stadium closure following sick ‘Griezmann die’ chants aimed at Barcelona star

ATLETICO MADRID could be hit with a shock stadium ban after sick fans chanted ‘Antoine Griezmann die’ during their clash with his new club Barcelona.

The France World Cup winner played his first match back at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday following his £108million switch in the summer.

Barca won 1-0 thanks to Lionel Messi’s late winner.

However, Griezmann suffered the disgusting taunts during the match.

LaLiga chiefs claims around 2,000 fans from Atletico’s notorious ‘Ultras’ section targeted the striker, who spent five years in the Spanish capital.

Griezmann made 168 starts for Diego Simeone’s men, scoring 94 goals.

But that did not stop fans venting their anger at his decision to quit for Catalonia.

The chants were first heard after seven minutes of the LaLiga clash.

They were then repeated in the second half.

Messi also had an umbrella thrown at him after he scored the late winner which put leaders Barca six points clear of sixth-placed Atletico.

Spanish outlet Cadina Cope claims the Madrid club could face a hefty fine and a stadium closure for the awful chants.

Griezmann received a hit reception from the home fans throughout the match.

Despite his goals and success for Atleti, he was never a particular fan favourite.

They were upset that it emerged the wheels of Griezmann’s move to Barca was set in motion back in March when he was battling the Catalans to help Atleti win the championship.

Any stadium ban would hot Madrid’s bid to qualify for the Champions League next season.
