Mourinho seeking Eriksen replacement in January after failing to convince contract-rebel Spurs midfielder to stay

JOSE MOURINHO is in the market for a new attacking midfielder with Christian Eriksen making it clear he wants to leave, according to reports.

The Portuguese boss was keen to hold talks with the Danish international over his future after refusing to pen a new deal.

Eriksen, 27, is out of contract at the end of the season meaning European clubs can sign him to a pre-contract for nothing in January ahead of a summer move.

Mourinho was hoping his arrival at the club would be the catalyst for Eriksen to commit his future at Spurs.

But the Telegraph report how he has already made up his mind with Juventus and Inter Milan ready to offer him a contract.

Tottenham may even let him leave next month if they receive the right offer to avoid losing him for nothing.

Real Madrid were believed to have shown an interest but that has seemingly cooled.

His impending departure means that Mourinho is ready to make a move in the transfer window despite being told he won’t have wads of cash to spend.

The manager will look to replace him but may need to sell players before being able to fork out on new signings.

Mourinho is also in the market for a backup striker to relieve the pressure from Harry Kane’s shoulders.

A central defender is also on the Christmas list with the futures of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen also left uncertain.

Both players have so far refused to extend their contracts but the club are optimistic a deal can be reached.
