The Brazilian was criticised by Gary Neville and Paul Scholes as they analysed United failing to win at Sheffield United with Pereira and Fred in central midfield.

But when Pereira has been played further forward United have a win percentage rate of 73% that would get them in the Champions League places if they managed it in all matches.

The 23-year-old has played as a No10 in five games this season, according to whoscored.com, making 11 chances for his United team-mates.

And in those matches there have been wins against Brighton, Norwich and Chelsea plus the draw against table-topping Liverpool.

He has also started in EVERY game this season where United have picked up maximum points in the Premier League.

But last weekend United salvaged a draw with Pereira starting in central midfield, which Neville insisted needed strengthening in future transfer windows.

The Sky Sports pundit said: “Fred and Pereira is not a midfield for a mid-table club, let alone one of the top spending clubs in Europe.”

But the pair are set to play tomorrow against Aston Villa as Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay are sidelined.
