How Man Utd will line up against Aston Villa with McTominay and Pogba both doubts

MANCHESTER UNITED could welcome Scott McTominay back to the squad on Sunday against Aston Villa.

Though the match could come too soon for World Cup winner Paul Pogba with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirming that he is still on the road to recovery.

The Red Devils sit ninth in the Premier League table following their 3-3 draw against Sheffield United.

They sit nine points behind the top four, and Solskjaer knows failure to beat the Villans could leave him facing the axe.

David De Gea is expected to start between the sticks, with a back four likely to consist of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Brandon Williams.

Scott McTominay could be handed a start should he be declared fit, with Solskjaer stating he is hopeful he will be available this weekend.

The Norwegian said: “We hope Scotty will be back as soon as possible, but he’s also been back home and I’ve not seen him.

“Maybe [he will be fit to face] Spurs but hopefully for Sunday.”

And while he looks to be ready, Pogba looks likely to miss out again with an ankle injury.

Solskjaer said: “Paul is stepping up his recovery and let’s see how soon he’ll be match fit and available.

“Of course, he’ll be like a new signing for us. He’s not really been able to play for us and, when we get him back, it’ll be like a new world-class signing and world-class midfielder.

“We want him back as soon as possible. Sunday? No. I can’t say now as I’ve not been home and seen him. Let’s see where he’s at when he comes back and he starts training with us.”

McTominay is therefore likely to be partnered with Fred in the middle of the pitch, with Andreas Pereira starting in the No10 role.

And Solskjaer could elect to start his usual front three of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Daniel James.
