Sir Alex Ferguson and Ed Woodward have heated discussion in the stands ahead of Man Utd clash with Sheffield United

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Sir Alex Ferguson and current chief executive Ed Woodward appeared to be having a fierce debate before today’s match with Sheffield United.

The Red Devils went two goals behind at Bramall Lane before a brilliant comeback – but then saw Oli McBurnie score a controversial late equaliser in a 3-3 thriller.

Ferguson and Woodward seemed to exchange words in the stands as before watching another dire United display unfold.

An image of the pair looking angry with each other and Woodward pointing mid-sentence went viral on social media.

But further images showed the pair going through a range of emotions during their chat, with some smiles also seen.

Sheffield United shocked Manchester United to dominate the first half and take a thoroughly deserved 2-0 half-time lead.

The Red Devils then provided a rousing comeback, scoring three goals in seven second half minutes to turn the game on its head.

But that was before Oli McBurnie scored a dramatic late equaliser for the Blades.

For 70 minutes, United were at least as bad as they were in the dismal defeats to Crystal Palace, West Ham and Bournemouth earlier this season.

Goals from John Fleck and Lys Mousset had given Chris Wilder’s side a comfortable lead.

But after Mousset’s unfortunate injury, strikes from academy graduates Brandon Williams, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford looked like giving the under-fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer all three points.

But a late equaliser from substitute Oli McBurnie gave Woodward and Ferguson much to ponder as the Red Devils failed to add to their solitary Premier League away win this season.

After a nervy wait for the Bramall Lane faithful as the goal was checked for a possible handball by VAR,

United were condemned to another away day disappointment.

The draw sees newly-promoted Sheffield United remarkably stay ahead of Manchester United in the table – although Solskjaer’s side have managed to climb to ninth.

The sacking of Mauricio Pochettino this week by Spurs has seen the Norwegian’s future again be put in the spotlight.

And their failure to win today will give Woodward food for thought, as the Argentine waits in the wings.
