It is only the third time in Welsh football history that the Dragons will play at a major tournament after appearances in 1958 and 2016.

And Giggs’ former Manchester United chief Ferguson is delighted the 45-year-old, in his first permanent manager’s job, has been a smash hit.

Giggs, who has won nine out of 19 games as Wales boss, has achieved success by finishing second in Group E behind Croatia while also giving youth a chance such as Dan James, Ethan Ampadu and Chris Mepham.

Legendary boss Ferguson, speaking at a fundraiser for international football charity Grassroot Soccer in London, said: “Ryan was always going to be a top man.

“He is intelligent, he has great drive about him and is doing a great job with Wales. And giving young players a chance too. It is fantastic.”

Giggs revealed to SunSport on the eve of the Hungary qualification decider that he receives a message of good luck from Ferguson before every game.

The former wing wizard won 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League crowns in a glittering playing career under Fergie at Old Trafford.

And their bond remains very close.

Giggs said: “He wished me good luck the other day for the game, which he always does.”

Wales will find out their finals opponents at the Euro 2020 draw on November 30 in Bucharest.
