Conegliano grab Italy Supercup in Club Worlds 'dress rehearsal'

Lausanne, Switzerland, November 16, 2019 – Imoco Volley Conegliano shut out Igor Gorgonzola Novara 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-21) to win back-to-back Italian Supercup titles in what could be dubbed a ‘dress rehearsal’ for the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship to which both Italian sides will be heading in just over a couple of weeks.

It was the second straight and third overall Supercup title for Conegliano.

Paola Egonu, who scored a match high 26 points (including 20/34 for 59% in attaking plus four blocks and two aces) was named MVP of the game, played before some 5,000 fans in Milan. Novara’s best scorer was captain Cristina Chirichella with 9 points.

The two teams had also met a few days earlier, with Conegliano winning in four sets in Novara for the Italian League.

The Club World Championship will be played in Shaoxing 3-8 December. Conegliano, in Pool A, are up against two-time world champions Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul, alongside hosts Guangdong Evergrande and Brazil’s Itambe Minas of Belo Horizonte. Novara are in Pool B, up against defending world champions VakifBank Istanbul, China’s Tianjin Bohai Bank and Brazil’s Dentil Praia Clube of Uberlandia.
