Rashford, 27, was one of the more impressive players during the 3-2 victory and even claimed an assist for Villa’s third.

The forward took on two PSG defenders before laying off the ball to Ezri Konsa to fire home.

However, the win was not enough to book the West Midlands side a spot in the Champions League semi-finals due to the 3-1 defeat in Paris last week.

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney was impressed with Rashford’s performance for Villa.

The retired striker insisted that he is keen on the idea of Rashford returning to Old Trafford this summer.

Speaking on Amazon Prime, he said: “I hope Rashford goes back to Manchester United and performs like he did tonight.

“That’s what we all want to see as Manchester United fans.”

Rashford was sent out on loan during the January transfer window after falling out of favour under boss Ruben Amorim.

The forward struggled to show his best form following the arrival of the Portuguese manager, but has improved since swapping red for claret.

Rooney also claimed that Rashford would want to be playing at Old Trafford and creating a “legacy” at the club.

He added: “Marcus Rashford wants to play for Manchester United, 100 per cent.

“He’s a Manchester lad, a Manchester United fan.

“He needed to play and it was clear he wasn’t going to play for the rest of the season.

“Sometimes, you have to put the manager in a position where he cannot leave you out.

“Marcus Rashford, in an ideal world, would want to play and leave a legacy at Manchester United.

“Whether that’s possible, I don’t know, but that’s what I’d love to see.”

Manager Aston Villa Unai Emery was asked about the future of Rashford after the defeat.

The former Arsenal boss praised his efforts against PSG but admitted it was “difficult” to plan.

He said: “It is difficult to plan it now.

“He is feeling better and he played a fantastic match. We are very happy.

“If he is happy, we are happy. It depends on the circumstances for now and the next weeks.”

While Rashford received praise for his performance against the French giants, two Villans were slammed for errors.

Clarence Seedorf singled out full-backs Lucas Digne and Matty Cash for their “unacceptable” attitude that allowed PSG to put themselves clear of their hosts.
