He has since been spotted in Dortmund, sparking speculation linking him to the dugout at Signal Iduna Park.

Ten Hag was in the stadium of Friday for the match against Bayer Leverkusen, according to Sky.

He has a close relationship with Matthias Sammer, a part-time advisor at the club.

And he was reportedly seen in discussions with manager director Carsten Cramer and sporting director Sven Mislintat last week.

Ten Hag has made multiple visits to the ground but his presence is not understood to be linked to recent results.

Dortmund are eighth in Bundesliga and have won just one of their last five league games.

But manager Nuri Sahin is not thought to be under pressure, having only been appointed in the summer.

Ten Hag was previously understood to be on the list of candidates to become the next Roma manager before they hired Claudio Ranieri.
