Spain vs France preview

Two football powerhouses in Spain and France clash for a place in Sunday’s 2024 European Championship final.

And given France entered the tournament as joint-favourites, it’s somewhat of a surprise to see that bookmakers favour Luis de la Fuente’s side to win this encounter.

In fact, Spain are priced at 2/1 to secure a record-breaking fourth Euros title after a terrific campaign.

They won all three of their group matches against Croatia, Italy, and Albania before hammering Georgia and eliminating hosts Germany with a dramatic 119th-minute extra-time winner from Mikel Merino in Stuttgart.

Spain remain unbeaten, and their counterparts can say the same – although it’s been an underwhelming competition for Didier Deschamps’ side to say the least.

France became the first team in Euros history to reach the semi-finals without scoring any goals in open play. All of their goals in their five tournament games have come from own goals or penalties.

Despite all of their attacking talent, France have been ultra pragmatic and very unappealing on the eye which has contributed to four clean sheets in their five matches.

But, as has often happened with the French in recent years, they remain on course to clinch a first Euros title since 2000.

And their chances are somewhat boosted with Robin Le Normand and Dani Carvajal both suspended while Pedri misses out through injury.

Result

It’s extremely difficult to see either of these nations running away with it. In fact it’s generous to see more than one goal being scored on Tuesday night.

As mentioned, pragmatic France have been fantastic at the back with four clean sheets in five matches, while goalkeeper Mike Maignan boasts the best save percentage in this competition with 94%.

But French have stuttered in attack with talisman Kylian Mbappe continuing struggle. Les Bleus have carved out 89 attempts at goal but not a single chance has found the back of the net.

Spain have managed to find the net on 10 occasions, but France’s rearguard action and organisation could see these sides cancel each other out.

Drama

In for a penny…

There have only been four goals scored in France’s five Euro 2024 matches.

And given we think a draw and extra time are likely it looks as though penalties are inevitable in Munich on Tuesday.

Both sides are available at 8/1 to win via spot kicks if you’re looking for bigger prices.

  • The match to go to penalties at 10/3 with William Hill – CLAIM HERE

He’s back

With Dani Carvajal suspended for Tuesday’s contest, it looks as though 38-year-old back-up right-back Jesus Navas will be drafted in.

Navas will become the oldest player to win the Euros if Spain go all the way and the veteran should have his hands full marking Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe all night.

He collected seven yellow cards and a red in LaLiga last season, and could add to his tally of 101 career cards against the French.
