Why England star Kieran Trippier was given pickle juice on touchline during Euro 2024 clash with Serbia

ENGLAND have a remedy to get their players out of a pickle when cramping up.

Gareth Southgate’s squad are being given pickle juice to fight the fatigue frustration – as it is said to solve the issue 40 per cent faster than drinking water.

Full-back Kieran Trippier, 33, was given pickle juice when cramping up in the latter stages of Sunday’s 1-0 win over Serbia in Gelsenkirchen.

That was in addition to also having a high-carb drink referred to as a “fuel bomb”.

Pickle juice is regularly used in tennis and contains sodium, potassium and vinegar.

When consumed, a reflex in the mouth is sparked, sending a signal to stop muscles from cramping.

It also improves gut health with antioxidants and helps control blood sugar levels.

It is also said to be great for fresh-smelling breath due to it killing bacteria which reproduces in the mouth.

And it is not a brand new remedy discovered before Euro 2024.

Way back in 2019, eagle-eyed football fans spotted then Arsenal ace Lucas Torreira gulping down some pickle juice.

He was not the first high-profile sports star who used the pungent fluid.

Just weeks before that, unseeded American tennis player Frances Tiafoe revealed pickle juice helped him overcome Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the last 16 of the Australian Open.

Rising Russian tennis pro Daniil Medvedev also opted for the salty drink during a break in play in his match against Novak Djokovic.

Now the England camp has stocked up and are using the pickle juice to help try and conquer all before them at the Euros.

And Southgate’s squad of stars may even be downing it the day after the final.

WHAT DOES PICKLE JUICE TASTE LIKE?

FOOTBALLERS and tennis stars swear by the recovery powers of pickle juice – but does it actually taste any good?

We put The Pickle House’s original juice to the test and found out it didn’t tickle everyone’s taste buds.

Laura Morelli said: “No wonder why it fixes cramps – who would think about pain when you have to sip on this!”

Rachael Clarke said: “It tastes really salty. It’s gross. The aftertaste lingers and it’s leaves my mouth feeling like I have swallowed a blended McDonalds burger.”

Natasha Wynarczyk said: “It’s so sour and the vinegar smell is so overpowering. It does feel like I’m drinking pure vinegar.”

Valerie Browne said: “It’s tasty! I have some vinegar in the mornings and this is like a white wine, cider vinegar. I could drink it regularly.”

Sam Morgan added: “It’s like drinking sea water. The initial taste knocks you back but it settles a bit after that. I think a quick shot of this is probably enough for anyone.”

Thank you to The Pickle House, who provided us with their juice. You can buy it here.

How England rated vs Serbia… as Bellingham shines but TWO big names get 5s

JUDE BELLINGHAM was England’s head boy as Gareth Southgate’s side made a winning start in Germany.

The Real Madrid superstar oozed class throughout and broke the deadlock with only 13 minutes played thanks to an excellent header, dispatching Bukayo Saka’s deflected cross.

But, despite the brilliant start, it was a nervy affair here in Gelsenkirchen.

Serbia exerted significant pressure in the second half, with a few narrow escapes for Southgate’s men.

Harry Kane barely had a kick and the Premier League’s player of the year Phil Foden struggled to have any influence on the left of the Three Lions’ front three.

Here’s how SunSport’s Tom Barclay rated England’s stars… with TWO stars getting just a 5.
