Pickford, who has long been a pantomime villain among Newcastle fans down the years, was in the home dressing room as England hosted Bosnia in Geordieland.

According to Channel 4 commentator Steve Bower, the Everton star headed to the away dressing room at half time, presumably out of habit.

Fans loved the gaffe, with one writing on social media: “Quality by Pickford. Trolling Newcastle by trying to go in the away dressing room haha.”

While a second joked: “Jordan Pickford going into the wrong dressing room because he doesn’t want to step foot in any room that Sean Longstaff has also been in.”
