Women’s Football Awards shortlist revealed with Laura Woods, Kate Abdo and Mary Earps all in the mix

LAURA WOODS, Kate Abdo and Mary Earps are amongst the star names battling it out at this year’s Women’s Football Awards.

Now in its second year, an incredible shortlist also featuring Bolton chairman Sharron Brittain has been revealed for the ceremony.

The star-studded event takes place in London on Thursday 30 May.

It will be hosted by former Lioness Eni Aluko and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.

And there are a ton of awards up for grabs.

One of the most fiercely contested categories sees TNT Sports star Woods and CBS Sport favourite Abdo competing for the Women’s Football Broadcaster or Journalist of the Year.

They are joined by a host of other top names including Alex Scott, Emma Jones and Reshmin Chowdhury.

Meanwhile, Man United and England goalie Earps, who won in 2023, leads the nominees for Player of the Year.

She is up against club teammate Nikita Parris, with the likes of Chelsea’s Laura James and Arsenal’s Katie McCabe also in the mix.

Elsewhere, Bolton chairman Brittain has been nominated for a special recognition award after transforming the club’s fortunes.

Nearly four years after they were liquidated, Bolton are now third in League One thanks to Brittain’s stewardship.

Other categories include International Football Player of the Year, Manager of the Year and Club of the Year.

There are also awards for those who champion the women’s game, including equality groups and socially responsible corporations.

Host Aluko said: “This year’s shortlist is another incredible catalogue of players, brands, celebrities and organisations who continue to grow the presence of women’s football around the world.

“We have added four amazing new categories this year, which allows us to celebrate even more of the amazing people, both on and off the pitch, who are achieving so much in the sport. 

“The SHEIN-sponsored Women’s Football Awards is going to be a fantastic event and it’s an honour to be a part of it for the second year running.”

Fellow host Carragher added: “The 2024 Women’s Football Awards is set to be a fantastic night celebrating the trailblazers, game changers and outstanding talent in the women’s game. 

“I am proud to be involved with the awards again and wish everyone on the shortlist the best of luck.”
