He has been plagued by injury issues and has just returned to training following a four-month absence.

Mount, 25, has made 12 appearances for United with the last of those coming against Luton in November.

He is still yet to score a goal for the Red Devils and one source close to one of his team-mates claims the transfer was not made “for football reasons”, according to Manchester Evening News.

Mount’s decision to leave Chelsea angered a lot of Blues fans, with some seeing his departure as a betrayal after he came through the club’s academy.

Mount spoke publicly to Chelsea fans at the time of his move but he has since remained tight-lipped, only talking to United’s media team.

United staff claim he remains sensitive about his switch, which he why he feels uneasy about talking to media about the transfer.

Mount has finally overcome a calf issue and manager Erik ten Hag expects he will be available for selection after the international break.

He said: “I think he is in a good spell now and he will return shortly, I think after the international break.
