Manchester United set up a crunch FA Cup quarter-final clash against rivals Liverpool after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
A rather hapless encounter looked set to go to extra-time, and perhaps penalties, but Casemiro ended Forest’s hopes of a third last-eight encounter in four years with a late winner.
The Red Devils’ skipper Bruno Fernandes whipped in a clever free-kick from the left and the Brazil international got to the ball before heading it past Matt Turner.
A long VAR check followed as there was suspicion Raphael Varane was blocking defenders from marking the goalscorer from an offside position.
However, the referees gave Erik ten Hag’s men the all clear to bid for the one piece of silverware they could realistically win this season.

Alan Shearer laid into Manchester United ace Marcus Rashford in an astonishing 40-second rant on live TV.
One particular moment enraged Shearer as a long ball was played into Rashford’s feet and the £300,000-a-week ace immediately got closed down by Nottingham Forest ace Felipe.
But instead of attempting to hold the ball up, the forward immediately threw himself to the ground.
The referee was not buying it and let play continue, while the England international immediately threw his arms up before trudging away from the action with his head faced the ground.
Come on Marcus, get up, stop waving your arms around.
You’ve got to do better, too easy that. The ball’s in front of you against the defender, you’ve got to hold it for your teammates.
I don’t like his body language at times, trying to send a message to fans, ‘it’s not my fault’.
You as an individual have to take responsibility for your actions on the pitch. Get up and get on with it.

Manchester United fans spotted Sir Alex Ferguson’s reaction to Antony during their FA Cup clash with Nottingham Forest.
United captain Bruno Fernandes attempted to switch the play during the first half at the City Ground as he raked a long ball over towards the winger on the far touchline.
But the effort was overhit and the Brazil international failed to scamper to reach it before it ran out of play.
The camera zoomed in on the 24-year-old’s reaction as he praised Fernandes for the pass.
It then cut to legendary Man Utd boss Ferguson who proceeded to exchange a few words with new club chief Sir Dave Brailsford.
Both Sir Alex and Brailsford had a chuckle to themselves, before turning their attention back towards the action on the pitch.

Casemiro stands out
Manchester United ace Casemiro put together another impressive performance in midield.
The Brazil international also scored the winner against Nottingham Forest in the 89th minute.
And as per the heat map below, the 32-year-old was ever present against Nottingham Forest.

It might sound like a proper “glory, glory Man United” moment – an 89th-minute winner to settle a tense FA Cup tie.
But the decisive goal from Casemiro had an element of bizarre fluke, after another horribly flat performance from Erik ten Hag’s side.
A free-kick from Bruno Fernandes out by the left-hand touchline bounced in front of goal, Casemiro added the slightest of touches with his head and, after a lengthy VAR check for offside, United were limping into the quarter-finals.
At least they avoided the potential nightmare scenario of a second defeat at the City Ground in the space of two months and confirmation of a trophyless season.
But the bold ambitions of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, to ‘knock Manchester City and Liverpool off their perch’ looked light years away here.
