The loss was Man Utd’s eighth of the Premier League season and 13th defeat overall.

And former Liverpool star Carragher highlighted stats comparing his pal Gary Neville’s time at Valencia and Ten Hag’s season so far.

The figures showed that Neville had managed 28 games, lost 11 games, scored 38 goals and conceded 39 before he was sacked in March 2016.

In Ten Hag’s case they showed a record of 26 games, 13 losses, 33 goals and 41 goals conceded.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Carragher quoted the post and said: “Give it Gary till the end of the season.”

Another goalless performance from Man Utd means they have not scored in four games in a row for the first time since 1992.

It is also the first time Man Utd have lost 13 games before Christmas since 1930.

£72million frontman Rasmus Hojlund continued his Premier League drought, with the stunning of lack service into him highlighted with wingers Alejandro Garnacho and Antony making just one pass to him.

Club legend Paul Scholes lambasted the toothless display on TNT Sports.

He said: “United have got problems. Goalscoring is a big issue. Four games without a goal or creating anything really.

“You usually go through seasons where one or two of your forwards are maybe struggling with a bit of confidence and they can’t score goals, but it’s every single one of them.

“They’ve got no goal threat from anywhere. [Scott] McTominay is leading scorer with six goals and he is a midfielder.

“The forwards have got to step up, find a bit of confidence from somewhere and bring some threat to the team. There is no threat to the team.

“Goal scoring is a real problem, they’ve got to solve that somehow.

“It’s disappointing. They’ve spent a lot of money on players you’re expecting more from.”

Man Utd face Aston Villa next on Boxing Day.
