AARON RAMSDALE has been told to “take on a different role” at Arsenal.
The goalkeeper remains out of favour at the Emirates Stadium, with Mikel Arteta favouring summer signing David Raya.
Ramsdale has been limited to just four appearances since the Spaniard’s Gunners debut, with only one of those coming in the league.
Former England international David James has now urged him to take up a new role within the squad.
Speaking to instantcasinos.com ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Liverpool on Saturday, James explained: “Arsenal have got a goalkeeper in David Raya who, from what I’ve seen, isn’t fully confident.
“If he’s not confident, then the Arsenal defence won’t be confident. His positioning is definitely questionable from my perspective, and if I’m Liverpool I’d be shooting from silly positions.

“With Raya’s positioning, there’s the opportunity to score from places that you normally would not, and with the ability of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, they can definitely nick a 1-0 win.
“Unfortunately for Aaron Ramsdale, he’s had three or four games in the past couple of months.
“This is the tough thing about being the number two goalkeeper – you’re looking at your manager thinking, ‘I know you don’t fancy me’, and you have to take on a different role in the squad.”
Raya has established himself as Arteta’s first choice since signing from Brentford in the summer.

He has kept his place in the team despite several shaky performances, including in the recent victory at Luton.
However, the 28-year-old has claimed his battle with Ramsdale has made both goalkeepers better.
Ramsdale has been left out in the cold, though, with his opportunities limited to two Carabao Cup fixtures, the final Champions League group match and the league trip to Brentford, for which Raya was ineligible.
As a result, the former Sheffield United stopper has been linked with a shock January exit when the window re-opens.
Chelsea are the latest club to be interested, according to reports, following Robert Sanchez’s recent injury.
