Nottingham Forest ‘identify Steve Cooper replacement’ if they decide to sack under-pressure boss

NOTTINGHAM FOREST are eyeing former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner as a potential replacement for Steve Cooper, according to reports.

Cooper is under pressure after winning just three out of 16 Premier League games this season.

The former Swansea boss won promotion to the top flight with Forest in 2022 before defying the odds to keep them up last season.

But if owner Evangelos Marinakis does pull the trigger Forest have several targets in mind to replace Cooper.

According to The Times, the out of work Glasner is a manager the club admire.

Glasner, 49, won the Europa League with Frankfurt in 2022 after beating Barcelona in the knock-out stages before defeating Rangers in the final.

He also finished as a runner-up in the German Cup last season following a final defeat to RB Leipzig.

But he parted ways with Frankfurt after guiding the club to seventh in the Bundesliga and has been out of work since.

Forest are also understood to be admirers of Julen Lopetegui, who is also unemployed after leaving Wolves in the summer.

Lopetegui guided Wolves to safety last season before leaving due to a dispute over transfers.

Marco Silva, whose Fulham side thrashed Forest 5-0 last week, is also said to be a target for Marinakis.

However Harry Toffolo, who scored at the weekend in the 1-1 draw with Wolves, revealed the squad is still behind Cooper.

He said: “We played with the identity that the manager wants and it showed the support we have for the manager.

“We love him. We love working with him and the day-to-day environment he has created and those are the basics for any team.

“He holds a special place for all of us. What he has achieved for this club in the past two years is incredible. We are proud to be a part of that and we want it to keep going.”
