The Sweden icon called time on his decorated career with AC Milan in 2023, after helping them seal the Serie A title in his second stint at the San Siro.

Upon retirement, the legendary striker declared he will be a “Milanista for life” – and could make good on that promise.

AC Milan are looking to insert a new figure to act as a “link between the management and the team.”

Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Ibrahimovic is set to be offered a new unofficial role.

The position would see the 42-year-old act as a club ambassador and member of head coach Stefano Pioli’s backroom staff.

He met with the owner’s chief investment officer on Monday at a hotel on Corso Venezia, and spent around two hours discussing how a partnership might work.

AC Milan CEO Furlani said: “There’s a chance to have Zlatan Ibrahimovic back with us in the management. We are on it, we’d be proud of that.

“We are in talks with Zlatan to discuss the next steps”.

The ex-striker previously visited the club’s Milanello training centre on the eve of Milan’s Champions League 0-0 clash with Newcastle, following defeat in their derby clash against Inter.

There is a growing sense that his leadership will prove a useful tool for Pioli.

Zlatan returned to AC Milan in 2020 for a second spell with the club and lifted the Scudetto.

Adding to the championship, the Swedish all-time top scorer won in 2010-11 the first time round.

Overall, he scored 93 goals in 163 appearances for the Rossoneri.

He won 13 league titles during his career at Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan.
