Sheikh Jassim ‘lined up to buy stake in rival Premier League club’ after Man Utd takeover collapse

SHEIKH JASSIM could reportedly purchase a stake in West Ham after co-owner Vanessa Gold announced she is placing some shares up for sale.

Gold took over a 25 per cent ownership in the club following the passing of her father David in January.

It is believed she is looking to sell up to ten per cent of her stake, but could sell the entire share to the right person.

And that could potentially be Sheikh Jassim following his failure to buy Manchester United, report The Times.

Gold is working with Rothschild bank to sell her stake following discussions with West Ham co-owners David Sullivan, Daniel Kretinsky and Tripp Smith.

She said in a statement: “I would consider selling a proportion of our shares to the right partner.

“I have spoken to each of the other three major shareholders at West Ham United, David Sullivan, Daniel Kretinsky and Tripp Smith, who have been very supportive.

“Any transaction to purchase some of our shares will be with my father’s legacy at the forefront of my mind which, of course, prioritises his beloved West Ham United.

“I have appointed Rothschild & Co to advise us on any discussions and will keep the other shareholders, the club and our supporters updated on any significant developments.”

The Qataris are believed to be interested in buying a Prem club and were linked with a move for Tottenham earlier this month.

The Hammers have also been on Sheikh Jassim’s radar for some time as his first alternative to purchasing United.

It is believed the Qataris are keen on West Ham as they boast one of the best fanbases in London, with London Stadium consistently selling out.
