Notts County forced to release statement on Taylor Swift ‘takeover’ as fans say ‘one normal day is all I ask for’

NOTTS COUNTY have been forced to deny rumours that the club is set to be taken over by TAYLOR SWIFT.

The Weekend Sport published a tongue-in-cheek front page on Friday claiming the superstar Taylor was trying to buy the Magpies.

The headline read: “Star wants world’s oldest footy club – Taylor Swift to buy Notts County!”

But any Swifties among the Notts County fanbase were left disappointed after the club’s owners promptly denied it.

In a fun statement on Twitter, using the singer’s song titles, the club’s owners Alex and Chris Reedtz wrote: “As sorry as we are to disappoint the Swiftes in our fanbase, we’re going to have to shake this story off.

“There’s certainly no bad blood between ourselves and Taylor but, at such an exciting time for us and the club, she surely couldn’t have believed in her wildest dreams that we would relinquish our control.

“We’ll leave a blank space in tomorrow’s pre-match playlist for a track from her newly re-released 1989 album as a gesture of gratitude for her interest.”

The club’s Twitter account then took things one step further when it produced a photoshopped image of Taylor Swift’s head superimposed onto the body of one of the ownership duo holding the National League play-off trophy.

The account captioned the image with: “Taylor’s Version”.

Fans on Twitter were entertained and perplexed in equal measure.

One Notts County fan wrote: “One normal day, that’s all I ask for…”

Another posted: “The finest statement I think I’ve ever seen the club issue.”

Another wrote: “What could have been” Alongside a mocked up version of the club’s away shirt emblazoned with Swift’s logo.

A fourth wrote: “She’s tall, can she do a job as a defender?”

The Magpies have got off to a flying start in League Two following promotion from the National League.

They are second top of League Two on 30 points.

They will renew their rivalry with National League rivals and eventual champions from last season, Wrexham, on Saturday.

Unlike County, Wrexham do have Hollywood owners, after actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchased the club in 2020.
