However, The Minstermen had a shock up their sleeve as they nicked the points at the death.

Lennel John-Lewis levelled the score in the 85th-minute before Dipo Akinyemi pounced in the fourth minute of additional time to claim the points.

As the game reached the eighth minute of time added on, York were awarded a free-kick deep into the Dagenham & Redbridge half.

A clip of it soon started spreading online that was captioned with: “Alexa, define time wasting in football at its finest.”

But as some football supporters revelled in the time-wasting tactic, others jokingly asked if it was a Chelsea striker that had taken it.

The Blues have spent over £1BILLION on new players since new owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake took charge last year.

However, the shot-shy Blues have only mustered a meagre seven goals in seven Premier League matches so far this term.

And rival fans could not wait to stick the boot in as the York time-wasting spread like wildfire.

“Nearly as good as Chelsea’s shooting,” commented one.

While another echoed that thought by writing: “Looks like Chelsea forwards shooting.”
