“Robbie played in Whitlett’s development squad and some of our lads were able to get a chance to play alongside Robbie.

“Our team along with our opponents, Tass Thistle will be observing a minute’s silence on Friday night to remember Robbie.”

Kilwinning Rangers FC Under-20s told of their sadness at the news.

The team added: “The 2004 players in our team were used to coming up against Robbie throughout their youth football journey when he was with Coylton and other top teams as well as us having several current players who were teammates over the years.
