Fans mock Erling Haaland’s MOTM award as they realise prize is ‘just pocket change’ compared to mammoth contract

MANCHESTER CITY superstar Erling Haaland received a financial reward after being named man of the match during a pre-season friendly.

But the sum Haaland earned equates to only a few hours’ work on his mammoth Etihad salary.

The star striker led City to a 5-3 win over Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan with a brace.

After full-time, the Norway international was presented with a giant cheque of ¥1million (Yen) – which works out in the region of £5,525.

The 23-year-old earns around £400,000-per-week after tax at the Etihad.

That means it would take the City star just two hours to earn that sum with the Treble winners.

Fans quickly noticed that hilarious detail and took to social media claiming the Norwegian might not even be bothered to cash that cheque in.

One fan tweeted: “It takes about 3 hours for him to earn this money bro these are pennies for him.”

Another commented: “Imagine they did a giant cheque for MOTM in the Prem for 5 grand… he earns that in an hour.”

A third posted: “If you’re on £400 a week would you be happy with £5 for being man of the match on a Sunday?”

This fan said: “That’s just pocket change for him.”

And that one stated: “Haaland won 1 million yen for being MOTM today, which is 5 thousand USD.

“He makes like 400,000 per week, that’s chump change for him.”

However, Haaland still received a better award compared to some other MOTM rewards.

Other footballers were handed some absolutely ridiculous prizes, from a live chicken to a Burger King crown and mobile phone data.
