FANS were left baffled by James Maddison’s bonkers shirt number for Tottenham.
The new £40million signing from Leicester started for Spurs in their first pre-season clash against West Ham in Australia.
However, the playmaker shocked supporters by wearing the rogue No71.
Maddison wore the No10 throughout his five years at Leicester.
And his new followers are convinced he is waiting to get hold of it again in North London.
One said: “Is Maddison waiting for the number 10 shirt or something? number 71!” followed by a laughing emoji.

Another wrote: “Why did Maddison collect number 71?”
A third added: “Can’t help but notice Maddison 71, hope it’s not a sign he’s waiting for 10…”
And a final user commented: “Maddison waiting for the 10 when Harry Kane leaves?”
Fellow new signing Manor Solomon wore No72 while Destiny Udogie was named on the bench with the No73.

Tottenham confirmed last week that numbers worn during pre-season may not be representative of their finalised squad numbers for the 2023-24 campaign.
And therefore the new signings have picked up available slots before making their decisions on their squad numbers.
Harry Kane currently holds Maddison’s beloved No10 shirt.
But with intense speculation regarding his future amid a possible transfer away from Tottenham, Maddison would surely be at the front of the queue to snap it up should Kane leave.
The No8 jersey is also available following Harry Winks’ exit to Leicester.
