Man Utd ‘could have signed Jack Grealish for LESS than Man City paid for him but baulked at the price’

MANCHESTER UNITED had the chance to sign Treble winner Jack Grealish before he joined Manchester City but refused to match Aston Villa’s asking price.

Grealish, 27, became the most expensive English players of all time when he signed for Pep Guardiola’s side in a huge £100million transfer two years ago.

However, United could have signed him for £20m LESS the previous season.

According to The Mirror, the Red Devils enquired about signing the winger from Aston Villa in 2020.

Villa officials demanded £80m for their star man, but United chiefs immediately “baulked” at the price tag.

And just 12 months later, Grealish made his way to the Blue side of Manchester.

After the England ace left Villa Park, Aston Villa’s chief executive Christian Purslow revealed the reason behind his exit.

He told VillaTV: “Jack wanted to be certain that if at any point a Champions League club came in for him and Aston Villa was not in that competition, that we would not stand in his way.

“Ultimately, he said it boiled down to wanting to play Champions League football now.”

He has since won two Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup.
