Chelsea OUT of transfer race for Inter star Onana and focus attention on three-man keeper shortlist instead


CHELSEA have pulled out the race to sign Andre Onana, according to reports.

The Blues had been heavily linked with the Inter Milan goalkeeper, but now look set to look towards three alternative options.

Mauricio Pochettino is looking to sign a new goalkeeper to compete with Kepa Arrizabalaga, while Edouard Mendy appears destined to leave.

Onana is expected to cost at least £50million.

But with the Evening Standard reporting the Stamford Bridge outfit have pulled out of the race, they will now switch their attention to a shortlist of three other stars.

Tottenham-linked Brentford goalie David Raya is one name on the shortlist.

He is then accompanied by Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel and Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Mamardashvili is said to be their second choice target.

Chelsea did also hold an interest in Mike Maignan but were unwilling to match AC Milan’s £80m asking price.

Manchester United have now swooped into pole position to sign Onana following Chelsea’s withdrawal.

This would signal a reunion between the Cameroon stopper and Erik ten Hag, with the pair previously working together at Ajax.

The Red Devils are also in the hunt for a new goalie, with David de Gea’s future at Old Trafford uncertain.

The Spaniard is out of contract at the end of the month, but his departure was not confirmed on United’s retained list.

Instead, the club said negotiations between the two parties were ongoing.

Man Utd have also been linked with moves for Raya and Porto’s Diogo Costa.

Elsewhere, Chelsea have triggered the release clause for Villarreal star Nicolas Jackson.
