And to celebrate, Klich mimicked Rooney’s iconic punching celebration when he netted against Tottenham in 2015.

The 32-year-old, who joined the MLS club in January, tapped home a rebound and ran off to the corner flag like his boss once did.

Klich stood tall and began to punch the air like a boxer before falling back, just like Rooney eight years ago.

The Manchester United legend initially showed off the celebration after he hit the headlines when The Sun exclusively revealed he had been knocked out in his kitchen by former Manchester United team-mate Phil Bardsley.

Rooney has since opened up on the iconic celebration, saying: “After I went down, the video stops but I wasn’t knocked out. We got up and carried on.

“I remember when we finished and the two of us sat there. My nose had gone and Bardo had blooding pouring out of his mouth

“He was brought up in Manchester the same way I have in Liverpool. We both love boxing.

“I remember when it was coming out, I remember going in to see [Louis] van Gaal. He was the manager at the time.

“I said, ‘listen, this story is coming out about me and Phil Bardsley boxing in the house’ and he found it hilarious.

“Growing up, I remember my dad used to give us the gloves in the house. It is something I have always loved doing.

“The night with Bardo, we got home and we put the gloves on. It is something that we do quite regularly, but that one got out.”

Rooney is into his second season managing DC United, who currently sit sixth in the Eastern Conference in the United States.

His squad contains ex-Aston Villa, Liverpool and Crystal Palace star Christian Benteke, who also netted in the weekend’s win.

On loan from Nottingham Forest ace Lewis O’Brien and ex-United and West Ham wonderkid Ravel Morrison are also on the books of the club.
