Man Utd player ratings: Casemiro and Christian Eriksen boss midfield but Antony and Aaron-Wan Bissaka struggle on right

And they had Casemiro to thank as he netted the only goal at the Vitality.

The Red Devils can now relax as far as the league’s concerned, with a huge FA Cup final against Man City on the horizon.

But who was United’s best player on the day?

And did anyone have a game to forget?

Here, SunSport’s Anthony Chapman delivers his Man Utd player ratings…

DAVID DE GEA – 7

Spaniard will be relieved that it was a fairly quiet day considering his recent costly blunders.

Bournemouth barely had a sniff as De Gea remained an imposing presence between the sticks while making a few good saves when needed.

AARON WAN-BISSAKA – 5

Has had his best season in ages but struggled to find rhythm today.

Lack of support from Antony saw him penned back and even then his defending left something to be desired.

RAPHAEL VARANE – 6

Cool and composed as usual, the Frenchman tended to have a grasp on the game.

But he lacked total control of his back line as Wan-Bissaka struggled alongside him.

VICTOR LINDELOF – 7

Might not have a future past the summer but that didn’t stop Swede from turning in a good performance.

Made good distance with his passes and was also strong in the tackle.

LUKE SHAW – 7

Reliable in defence and in attack as he dominated his flank.

Looked to be buzzing off the back of his new long-term contract.

CASEMIRO – 8

Opened the scoring with an outrageous volley to continue his fine debut season.

Was a powerful presence and always looked hungry to score more.

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN – 7

Cheeky little chip found Casemiro and saw United draw first blood.

Dictated play well in possibly his best performance since returning from injury.

ANTONY – 4

A lot of style but not a lot of substance today, summed up by a miserable failed rainbow flick.

Was locked in place by Lloyd Kelly and needs to improve quickly if he is to become a key long-term player.

BRUNO FERNANDES – 6

Deployed further forward than usual but struggled to get any of his long shots on target.

However, he was full of tenacity and fought hard for the win.

JADON SANCHO – 6

Still yet to live up to the hype but produced some decent passes and off-the-ball runs.

Winger lacked the dynamism of Marcus Rashford but did a decent job in his stead.

ANTHONY MARTIAL – 7

Called upon to lead the line as United hunt a new striker and didn’t disgrace himself.

Movement was good but was unable to get the goal he and his team craved.

SUBS

Wout Weghorst (for Martial, 57′) – 6

Big man did a competent job as he chased down the opposition and fought admirably in aerial duels.

Alejandro Garnacho (for Sancho, 72′) – 6

Didn’t get much time to impress but looked a real live wire each time he got the ball.
