Man Utd fans spot what Maguire did just before calamity goal vs Sevilla after De Gea takes flack for ‘horrific’ pass

HARRY MAGUIRE and David de Gea were the guilty parties after gifting Sevilla an early lead against Manchester United following a calamitous error.

Under pressure from three attackers, Maguire gave the ball away after attempting a blind pass out to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, allowing Youssef En-Nesyri to net the opener.

Maguire asked for the ball before De Gea passed it out to him

De Gea passed Maguire the ball despite the surrounding pressure.

This saw the Spaniard come under fire from BT Sport co-commentator Robbie Savage, who slammed: “Why is De Gea passing to him there? Just put it wide to Wan-Bissaka surely!”

But eagle-eyed fans spotted Maguire actually ASKING for the ball before having the pass played to him.

After hearing about the new angle, Savage also bared his verbal fangs at Maguire.

He said: “Maguire should not be asking for the ball in that situation.”

Fans online were up in arms over the error, with one fuming: “This was the problem. De Gea’s horrific passing can’t be bailed out anymore because it’s Maguire there instead of Martinez.”

A second said: “Regardless of whose fault it is, Maguire and De Gea can both go.”

With a third suggesting: “De Gea and Maguire play like they got beef with each other.”

Though many were not sure where the blame should lie.

One blasted: “MAGUIRE PLEASE LEAVE MY CLUB.”

A second argued: “Blame Maguire all you want, that’s a hospital pass from De Gea.”

A third said: “De Gea has done Maguire in big time here. What’s he thinking?!”

Considering the arguments of both sides, Savage concluded: “I still think De Gea shouldn’t give him the ball – even if he’s demanded it.”

Maguire is in the team once again tonight following the season-ending injury to Lisandro Martinez and a knock against Raphael Varane.

Both Maguire and De Gea are among the stars tipped for a potential Old Trafford exit in the summer as Erik ten Hag continues his squad rebuild.

De Gea has been criticised as being unable to play out the back in the way many modern goalies can.

While Maguire’s limited game time has left many wondering whether his future should lie away from United.
