I scored a late winner for Tottenham against Arsenal in the Premier League before quitting football to run a care home

TOTTENHAM came from 2-0 down to secure a famous 3-2 win over Arsenal at the Emirates in November 2010.

It was the first time Spurs had won at the home of their bitter rivals for 17 years.

Gareth Bale and Rafael van der Vaart netted for Harry Redknapp’s side, before defender Younes Kaboul headed in a late winner.

Kaboul had two spells at Spurs in his professional career, making 140 appearances for the club.

In September 2014 the centre-back was named club captain by then boss Mauricio Pochettino.

He would move on to Sunderland in 2015, before finishing his career at Watford.

Having quit football in 2018, Kaboul later opened a care home for people with mental disabilities.

Speaking on his new career venture in March 2021, Kaboul told Tottenham’s website: “I own a care home now for people with mental disabilities in Belgium.

“I am quite hands-on with it. My business partner is there now, and I go there a lot. I really enjoy doing it.

“I have always been someone for equality. I have always been a person that wants the best standards of living for everybody, so it is just to help people with disabilities, to make their everyday better.

“What football gave me, it is just to transmit that to them and give them a chance of a better life, really.

“The work is totally different to football. You see real life. It is a real fight.

“I have been fighting for 15 to 20 years in football and now it is a new challenge, a new fight, a new game and what I have learned from football, that helps as well.”

Kaboul, 37, revealed at the time he was “learning every day” by working in the care home.

He continued: “I really wanted to do something. There is a lot to do but I really enjoy it.

“I’m learning every day so I’m delighted by that.”

Kaboul won the League Cup during his first spell at Spurs before moving to Portsmouth where he played under Redknapp, who brought him back to North London in 2010.

And it was his header at the Emirates later that year that secured a first win for Tottenham at Arsenal since 1993.
