‘As a Dutch person, I apologise for Wout Weghorst’ – Fans poke fun at Man Utd striker after missing woeful sitter

FANS have mocked Wout Weghorst after he missed a sitter for Manchester United against Real Betis.

The striker scored in the 4-1 win in the first leg last week but spurned a brilliant opportunity to give his side the lead in Spain.

A Bruno Fernandes free-kick fell to Facundo Pellistri who scuffed an effort onto the post.

But it passed Weghorst by mere inches and the striker missed a perfect opportunity to poke the ball past the keeper and into the net.

Fans were astounded by Weghorst’s failure to score and began ridiculing him on social media.

One fan wrote: “As a Dutch person I apologise for Wout Weghorst 😭.”

Another added: ” Weghorst is genuinely allergic to scoring 😭”

A third said: “Weghorst is so so bad. I didn’t think he would be this bad 🤣”

And another commented: “I promise you I’m better at football than Weghorst.”

Marcus Rashford was also guilty of missing great chances to score at the beginning of the second half.

One effort was saved while another he blasted high over the bar, but unlike Weghorst he made amends moments later as he found the bottom corner with a beautifully executed strike from range.

Weghorst has been a target of mockery since joining the Red Devils and also came under fire for touching the ‘This is Anfield’ sign before the match against Liverpool.

But some fans have taken a shine to the Dutchman and have been left impressed by his work rate and commitment.
