Harry Redknapp reveals reason he hasn’t taken the Leeds job after rumours he was set to come out of retirement aged 75

HARRY REDKNAPP has revealed why he hasn’t taken the Leeds job after rumours claimed he was set to come out of retirement aged 75.

The iconic English manager hasn’t taken up a managerial post since 2017, when he was in charge of Birmingham.

Following Jesse Marsch’s dismissal by Leeds, Redknapp was linked with a sensational return to Premier League management.

However, contact was never made between Leeds and the former Tottenham boss.

And Redknapp has now taken to talkSPORT to put the rumours of him coming out of retirement at the age of 75 to bed.

When asked by Ray Parlour if he was waiting to catch a train to Leeds from London Euston, Redknapp quipped: “I would, Ray. I would do it, but it coincides with Cheltenham week.”

Redknapp continued: “So really, I can’t miss Cheltenham. I really can’t miss Cheltenham – I’m up there with you lads on the Thursday, I’ve got a couple of runners hopefully.”

On whether there were conversations, Redknapp said: “No, I don’t know where it came from, Ray.

“Someone rang me yesterday, and I said ‘What are you talking about? It’s not April 1st is it?’

“I mean, it came out of the air. So yeah, no idea, Ray.”

When pressed on whether he would get back into management, an enthusiastic Redknapp said: “Yeah I would, yeah. I would do it. Ray, I love it. I wouldn’t say no anywhere.

“But I’m not going to get the Leeds job, not a chance.

“But yeah, if someone asked me to go in and work there…

“Yeah I’d go there [keep a team up], no wages, bonus for keeping them up – that’s the move.”

Another manager in their 70s has returned to professional football.

Neil Warnock came out of retirement aged 74 to take charge of Huddersfield – a team he managed in the 90s.

Redknapp has tipped Warnock to “wind up” his Huddersfield team and pick up some results to beat the drop from the Championship.
