Jamie Carragher names his ideal England squad for World Cup 2022 but Darren Bent questions selection

LIVERPOOL legend Jamie Carragher has picked his England squad for the World Cup – notably leaving out Newcastle striker Callum Wilson.

Carragher also left out AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori, but included in-form Leicester man James Maddison.

By snubbing Wilson, the Sky Sports pundit selected Tammy Abraham and Brentford’s Ivan Toney to provide competition for Harry Kane.

That’s despite Abraham scoring just three goals in 18 games for Roma this season, half of what Wilson has managed in eight fewer matches.

Toney has scored more than both, registering an impressive eight goals for Brentford, including a hat-trick against Leeds.

The ex-Newcastle star also has an incredible penalty record for the Bees, scoring 20 out of 20, which could prove key later in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Carragher has also picked Maddison, who’s been playing right at the top of his game for Leicester, even though he has one cap to his name.

Carragher posted his full squad on Twitter and received a response from Darren Bent, who disagreed with his choice to leave out Wilson.

The former England and Tottenham striker replied: “No Wilson?”

Carragher also included underfire Manchester United man Harry Maguire and Arsenal’s Ben White, who’s been staking a claim for a place at right-back.
