Both sides needed to win to guarantee a spot in the knockout stages of the tournament.

At one point, it looked like Marseille would have Tottenham’s number, with ex-Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba heading home before half-time.

But second half strikes from Clement Lenglet and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg completed Spurs’ turnaround and secured top spot in the group.

But as Tottenham striker Harry Kane lead the counter attack for Hojbjerg’s winner, Marseille manager Tudor could be seen on the pitch wildly waiving his arms.

The lapse in concentration right at the death cost Marseille a spot in the Europa League.

Marseille finished one point behind third-placed Sporting, who lost 2-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday.

The French side had the advantage in the head-to-head with the Portuguese side, winning both games.

And their goal difference was superior.

After the game, Tudor fumed: “We deserved to win… There was too much noise, they didn’t hear what I was saying…”
