Erik ten Hag got the better of Antonio Conte in Wednesday’s crunch battle.

And it was a trio of samba stars who particularly caught the eye.

But who else had a great game for United? And did anyone have a match to forget?

DAVID DE GEA – 7

Had surprisingly little to do despite coming up against supposedly the best strike duo in the league, but saved well against Kane at point-blank.

Stood up for his team-mates when Spurs went rough at set-pieces and showed plenty of desire to drive United forward.

DIOGO DALOT – 8

Has nailed down that right-hand side in United’s team now.

Confident going forward and always wanted the ball, will be hoping to add a bit more final quality to his game next.

RAPHAEL VARANE – 8

Beginning to show glimpses of his former Real Madrid qualities.

Organised United’s back line well and made sure there were no gaps for any Spurs forwards to slip through.

LISANDRO MARTINEZ – 8

Rewriting the rule book for what it takes to be a top Premier League centre-back.

Kept Kane and Son quiet with some tidy interceptions and was key at helping United build up quickly.

LUKE SHAW – 8

Solid and determined, he looks to have turned a corner after stalling earlier this term.

Loved to venture forward but was also focused on locking down at the back.

CASEMIRO – 8

Starting to look at home in the heart of Ten Hag’s team.

Proved he wasn’t shy of shooting with an outrageous long-range effort and brought a calm presence in the battle against Spurs’ three sitters.

FRED – 9

A real devil in midfield, he was one of United’s standout players on the night.

The Brazilian was excellent in all departments and was rewarded for his efforts with the opener at Old Trafford.

ANTONY – 8

Quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with.

His silky footwork left Spurs in a spin and the Brazilian is well on his way to becoming a firm fan favourite.

BRUNO FERNANDES – 9

Stepped up for the big occasion to silence his critics.

Ran his socks off for the team but also reminded people he really does have a wand of a right foot too as he fired in United’s second goal.

JADON SANCHO – 8

Another confident game from the England World Cup hopeful.

Gareth Southgate won’t be able to ignore him much longer if he continues to combine defensive duties with a real passion for driving into the box.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 7

Slightly subdued performance by his standards but was still lively.

Gave Spurs something to think about a few times and used speed to spread the back five.
