PAUL SCHOLES reckons that Manchester United will be City’s closest title rivals this season.
The Red Devils got off to a horrendous start, losing 2-1 at home to Brighton before a humiliating 4-0 loss at Brentford.
After the embarrassment in West London, Scholes feared his beloved side wouldn’t even be able to secure a Europa League spot.
But now he reckons they are well placed to come second to perennial winners City.
Appearing on BT Sport, he said: “After those first two games, I was really concerned that they wouldn’t finish in the top six.
“But the way they’ve fought back, winning five of their last six games, they’ve given themselves a great chance. They do look like they could be the best of the rest.

“I think they’ve got the squad of players that means they could be.
“It’s still very early days for some of these players, the manager and his staff as well.
“The longer it goes on, the more confident I’ll be of them getting in the top four.”
Since their awful start to the season, United have put together a run of five wins in six – the one defeat being the 6-3 loss at City.

United are also on course to progress from their Europa League group after their 1-0 win over Omonoia.
Scholes’ former team-mate Owen Hargreaves reckons they should be targeting a cup win.
He added: “If they can finish top four and win a trophy, I think that’s a great debut season for Erik ten Hag.”
The Red Devils’ go into this afternoon’s clash with Newcastle fifth in the Premier League – nine points behind leaders Arsenal and eight off City and Tottenham.
