‘I woke up angry’ – Brentford ace Ivan Toney shares sickening racist abuse he was sent on Twitter after Brighton heroics

IVAN TONEY has tweeted an image of sickening racist abuse sent to him in an online message.

The sender refers to the Brentford striker as a ‘Black c***’ in the DM sent at 9.46pm yesterday.

The timing means Toney would have received the message shortly after inspiring the Bees to a 2-0 home win over Brighton.

The 26-year-old scored both goals to help move Thomas Frank’s side up to eighth in the Prem.

Toney tweeted a screenshot of the abuse at 9.48am this morning.

He added the wording: “I wasn’t even going to post this but I woke up angry…”

Brentford released a statement condemning the abuse this morning and making it clear any “attack on one of our players is an attack on all of us”.

It says: “Ivan will receive the full backing from the club and from the Brentford fans, who we have already seen condemning the abuse.

“We expect strong support from the police, legal authorities and from Instagram’s parent company, Meta, to ensure that the individual involved faces the full force of the law for this despicable hate crime.”

Sky Sports have since reported the Metropolitan Police have sent a message to Toney today and asked him to get in touch about the incident.

The brace took Toney’s goal tally for the season up to eight, and he also has two assists.

That means he is level pegging in the Prem’s top scorers’ chart with Spurs talisman Harry Kane.

Only Manchester City phenom Erling Haaland has more league goals after bagging 15 in his incredible start to the season.

Toney’s sparkling form has left him with an increasingly good chance of going to this winter’s World Cup with England.

In the wake of the win over Albion, Bees boss Frank said Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate now has to seriously consider the striker’s claim for a spot on the plane to Qatar.
