Haaland MILES ahead of Ronaldo’s goal tally at 22 – but he’ll need to pick up the pace to break Man Utd star’s record

MANCHESTER CITY goal phenom Erling Haaland is MILES ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’s club goals tally at 22 – but he’ll have to pick up the pace to beat him by the time he turns 37.

Haaland has scored an incredible 155 club goals in his short career, with 20 of those coming in the first few months of the 2022/23 season for Man City.

The 22-year-old has scored 15 Premier League goals in nine games and five in three in the Champions League.

By the time Ronaldo was Haaland’s age, playing for Manchester United in the early 2000s, the Portugal ace only had 82 goals.

That’s 73 strikes short of the Norway superstar.

But Ronaldo would, of course, pick up his goal-scoring in his mid-to-late 20s, impressively hitting 50+ goals in six consecutive seasons between the age of 25 and 30.

Five Ballon D’ors, seven league titles across three major European countries and five Champions Leagues later, Ronaldo scored his 700th club goal.

Ronaldo netted in Man Utd’s 2-1 away win over Everton on Sunday.

But the goal was only his second of the season, with the 37-year-old spending most of his time this term on the bench.

Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford beyond next summer is uncertain with his contract set to expire.

The football icon tried to leave in the summer after United failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Haaland would have to pick up the pace for the next 15 years to match CR7’s incredible feat.

The young striker would have to net 45 goals-a-season at club level to match Ronaldo by the time he turns 37.

At his current rate, he’s expected to hit just north of the 600-goal mark.

Haaland has, however, already matched one of Ronaldo’s stats in England.

The Man City ace has scored three Prem hat-tricks since his arrival at the Etihad.

Ronaldo has managed three over two spells at Man Utd with 224 more games played.

Haaland is also on course to break the record held by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole for the most goals scored in a Prem season.

Both legends reached 34 and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah came closest in 2017/18, netting 32.

Haaland needs just 19 league goals in the 29 games remaining to match the record.

Should he also continue scoring at his current rate, he could beat the goals record for top-five European leagues – which is held by Lionel Messi.

Seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi scored an astonishing 50 LaLiga goals in the 2011-12 season and Haaland is on course to clear 60.
