England booed after shambolic Italy loss as fans call for Gareth Southgate to be SACKED just two months before World Cup


GARETH SOUTHGATE and the England squad were BOOED off the pitch following a lacklustre performance against Italy.

The Three Lions suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Azzurri this evening.

The result saw them RELEGATED from League A of the Nations League for the first time ever.

After an underwhelming first half from both teams, Italy broke the deadlock in the 68th minute thanks to a fantastic strike from Giacomo Raspadori.

The striker brought the ball down on the edge of the box following a cross from Leonardo Bonucci before cutting inside and unleashing a an excellent shot into the bottom right corner.

Southgate reacted quickly by making a double substitution.

But it was too little too late as the Three Lions went on to suffer their third defeat of the competition.

Even if they defeat Germany on Monday, they will still finish rock bottom of Group B.

Fans at the San Siro were left furious after the final whistle, with the majority BOOING the England squad off the pitch.

SunSport quizzed Southgate on England fans booing the team. He simply replied: “It’s understandable.”

Many also took to Twitter to react with one writing: “The team is completely lost at the moment. Southgate’s stubbornness is ruining this side and sucking all the confidence of the players.”

Another added: “This is EMBARRASSING.”

And a third said: “Wow, just wow, get him out now!”

England have failed to score a goal from open play in each of their last five games.

They have also now gone five consecutive games without a win for the first time in EIGHT years.

When speaking to Channel 4 after the match, midfielder Declan Rice said: “It’s obviously disappointing.

“In the Nations League we have slipped below our standards but I didn’t think it was all bad tonight.”
