The Old Trafford side pulled out after there was a backlash from supporters, as well as a distance in valuation with the Serie A side on a transfer fee.

Arnautovic has five goals in five games and sits at the top of the  Serie A scoring chart.

A 2-0 defeat at the San Siro to champions AC Milan has been the only game Arnautovic hasn’t netted in.

Club legend Gary Neville described the approach as “desperate” while Roy Keane also questioned the process.

Arnautovic scored 15 goals in 34 games for Bologna last season.
