Man Utd XI: De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Malacia; McTominay, Fernandes, Eriksen; Sancho, Rashford, Elanga.

Southampton XI: Bazunu; Djenepo, Salisu, Bella-Kotchap, Walker-Peters; Lavia, Ward-Prowse, A Armstrong, Elyounoussi, Aribo; Adams.

Ten Hag has also opted to line up without new signing Casemiro, but he could still make his United debut as a substitute.

It is an unchanged side from the team which started against Liverpool five days ago.

A back four of Diogo Dalot, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia will look to offer David de Gea adequate protection.

Scott McTominay will sit in front of the defence, with Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes ahead of him.

And up front Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga will occupy the flanks either side of Marcus Rashford.

United’s win over Liverpool kick-started their campaign after a dismal opening two matches saw them lose 2-1 to Brighton and 4-0 to Brentford.

And Ten Hag revealed earlier this week that the win over Jurgen Klopp’s men has galvanised his players’ confidence heading to St Mary’s.

He said: “I said before the game that Liverpool, especially last year is the best football team in the world and when you beat them it must give a lot of confidence that is clear.

“The spirit was already good, now it is better, it’s clear it’s one game, we have to build further on and everyone is aware of that.”

Man Utd’s clash with Southampton kicks off at 12.30pm.
