The champions wanted Marc Cucurella but pulled out of a deal due to Brighton’s asking price – before he joined Chelsea for £62m.

And now they have agreed a fee with Belgian side Anderlecht for Gomez, 21, according to Fabrizio Romano.

City are claimed to be paying around £12.6m for his services.

Zinchenko’s departure to the Gunners means Gomez is likely to be in and around the City first team as soon as he arrives.

LaLiga outfit Girona are believed to be keen on taking Gomez on loan if he does not prove himself worthy as part of Guardiola’s immediate plans.

The Spain U21 star is one for the future at the Etihad though.

He enjoyed a breakthrough season last term following spells with Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona B.
