But he is yet to find a club this summer despite links to Everton and West Ham, where he could reunite with former boss David Moyes.

Another former Red Devil Sergio Romero, 35, can also be snapped up on a free transfer with the Argentine keen on a shock return to Old Trafford.

Juan Mata, who was released by United this summer, is another player currently unattached.

The Spaniard may be in his twilight years at 34 but would add a wealth of experience to his next club.

Leeds reportedly held talks with Mata last month but failed to agree a deal, while Fabian Delph is also struggling in his efforts to find a fresh start at a new club.

The 32-year-old midfielder struggled with injuries in his three-year spell at Everton and was released after making just eight appearances last season.

Former Prem stars Diego Costa, 33, who was most recently with Brazil’s Atletico Mineiro, and Serge Aurier, 29, who has been let go by Villarreal, will also catch the eye of fans of the English game.

Former Real Madrid star Marcelo is the most high profile player available on a free.

The left-back, 34, is one of the most decorated players of all time with a haul of 24 trophies from his time at the Bernabeu.

Isco, 30, was also released by Real this summer and is still trying to find his next club, as is ex-Lyon centre-back Jason Denayer, 27, and 23-year-old Dan-Axel Zagadou, who most recently played for Borussia Dortmund.

Andrea Belotti is another big name who still has not been snapped up, despite Torino once valuing the striker at £88million when he attracted interest from Manchester United and PSG.

Arsenal had an eye on the Italy international, 28, this summer with West Ham, Newcastle and Everton also interested.

But it appears those clubs are set to lose out with Belotti believed to be close to signing a two-year deal with Roma.
