Everton suffer huge blow with Dominic Calvert-Lewin set to miss first six weeks of Premier League with another injury

EVERTON striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to miss the first SIX WEEKS of the Premier League season through injury, manager Frank Lampard has confirmed.

The 25-year-old, who was left sidelined for several months last season, missed training on Wednesday after suffering a minor “freak” injury during Tuesday’s session.

But now Toffees boss Lampard has revealed that it is worse than just a small knock.

Providing an update on the injury, he said: “Losing a player of Dom’s quality is obviously going to have an impact.

“I think we’re probably looking around six weeks for the injury.”

Calvert-Lewin’s injury means Lampard now has no fit strikers for Saturday’s opener against his former side Chelsea.

Salomon Rondon is suspended and Richarlison was sold to Tottenham earlier this summer.

Yet despite no focal point in attack, Lampard insists he is happy with the club’s transfer window so far.

Everton have signed James Tarkowski, Dwight McNeil and Ruben Vinagre.

And Lampard said: “I’m pleased with the players we brought in. As a coach, I’m a big part of that decision-making process.

“While players are our players, they need to be ready to play. There’s ‘no have to’ [sell players to bring others in].

“We’re not too big in terms of numbers, we have to assess it as we go along.”

Everton narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League last season after a horrid campaign.

A 4-0 pre-season defeat to Minnesota last month rang alarm bells among the Everton faithful.
