Man Utd 2 Aston Villa 2 LIVE RESULT: Chambers nods in last-ditch equaliser following De Gea’s blunder – latest updates

MANCHESTER UNITED failed to continue their perfect pre-season run against Aston Villa courtesy of former Arsenal man Calum Chambers.

Jadon Sancho fired the Red Devils into the lead before Matty Cash’s bizarre own goal made it two at half-time.

However, super sub Leon Bailey’s sensational solo effort clawed Villa back into the game.

And Chambers wriggled free from a corner in the dying minutes to nod the ball past a poorly placed David De Gea.

  • That’s all from us!

Thank you once again for tuning into SunSport’s coverage of Manchester United vs Aston Villa!

It certainly was not the result we were expecting, as the underdogs threw up a last minute comeback, which saw the game end 2-2.

Leon Bailey and Jadon Sancho lit up the Aussie stage on the wings with two brilliant goals, so you won’t have been disappointed as a neutral.

Up next we have Spurs, as they face off against Rangers in their pre-season friendly, which is sure to be a cracker!

Have a great day ahead and thank you again for joining us!

  • Stick or twist?

    Martial or Ronaldo?

This on paper, looks like a strikingly obvious answer, but it isn’t that simple.

While there is no doubting the excellence of Cristiano Ronaldo, and no doubting his status as one of the greatest players to have ever lived, does he actually improve this United side? Especially if he does not want to be there?

Meanwhile there is Anthony Martial, who seems to have a new lease of life under Ten Hag, and will be keen to get his mojo back.

United also seem to play much better as a unit without CR7 in the lineup, with the play being spread out wide, rather than direct and through the middle.

  • Jubilant Jadon.

While Bailey will get most of the plaudits today, it must be said that Jadon Sancho was excellent.

The English winger will be hoping that his fine pre-season form continues into the beginning of the season, as he will be looking to stake a late claim into Gareth Southgate’s World Cup plans.

He has scored 3 goals in pre-season already, and looks to have formed a really formidable partnership with Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Martial.

  • Who do they have up next?

That is the end of United’s Australian tour, as up next they will fly back to the UK before playing Atletico Madrid, which will also be covered here on SunSport!

As for Villa, they play Rennes a week from today, as they look to continue their unbeaten pre-season, which looked in doubt today.

  • Man of the match.

Man of the match today has to go to Leon Bailey.

The Jamaican was simply brilliant, and just edges Jadon Sancho for the SunSport man of the match award today.

His goal was fantastic, and he also set up Chambers’ last minute equaliser from a set piece.

Surely he will be starting Villa’s first game of the season against Bournemouth.

But that is just our vote, who was your man of the match?

  • Some beautiful goals.

A game of four goals, and two of them were really sensational.

United’s first goal, courtesy of Jadon Sancho, was excellent.

Shaw played a wonderful one-two on the left hand side, before whipping in an inch perfect ball for Sancho to hit in on the volley.

But the goal of the game has to go to Leon Bailey.

He sprinted down the right-hand side, and dazzled Victor Lindelof with two step overs, before slotting the ball into the bottom left corner with his left boot.

    Aston-ishing.

  • A game of two halves.

Wow, what a game that was.

The best way to describe it is as a game of two halves.

United were spectacular in the first half, and it looked as though they would cruise to victory after two really well worked goals, firstly through Jadon Sancho, and then an own goal from Matty Cash.

But the second half was much different, as the introduction of Leon Bailey seemingly shocked Villa into life.

The Jamaican scored the first for Villa and set up the second, with his goal being an absolute stunner.

Overall a draw was definitely a fair result.

  • Full time. Manchester United 2-2 Aston Villa

    That is unbelievable!

Aston Villa and Calum Chambers have equalised with the last kick of the game!
The corner comes in from that man Leon Bailey, and Chambers rises highest to nod it in.

De Gea will be disappointed that he didn’t come and claim that.

  • 90+2. Manchester United 2-2 Aston Villa

Goal! Villa clinch the equaliser! Chambers heads in!

  • 90+2. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

Bailly picks up a yellow card for rough treatment of Emiliano Buendia, who has really lost his head.

  • 90+1. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

Villa will feel that they have done enough to get a draw from this one, as they have had the majority of this second half in their favour.

It will be interesting to see who starts the season for Villa…

  • 90. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

There will be two minutes of additional time.

  • 90. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

Buendia looks a little injured here.

He lets the ball run through his legs to Ashley Young, who’s attempted cross is way off the pace and goes out for a throw in.

  • 88. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

United look like they are seeing out the last few minutes in Perth with this young eleven on the pitch.

  • 86. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

Chong drives towards goal, and looks to get a shot off, he does, but it is blocked.

Perhaps he should have looked up for Elanga, but he has won a corner anyway.

  • 84. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

Ashley Young gets a nice nutmeg on Tahith Chong, showing that he has still got it, but Chong brings him down for a free kick.

  • 82. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

Olsen has not been great this half since he replaced Martinez, particularly with his feet.

  • 80. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

Kesler-Hayden looks very good down the right hand side for Villa, as he is the latest Villa player to have a shot on goal.

It is United’s turn to go forwards now with Malacia, as he looks to find one of the United youngsters in the box.

  • 77. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

Yellow card for Tahith Chong, who made 19 appearances for Birmingham last season.

  • 77. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

58,228 is the attendance here in Perth, which is pretty much a sell-out.

  • 75. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

Villa drive forward once more, through a great pass by Kesler-Hayden, Bailey should do better there, but he is forgiven in these conditions.

  • 73. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

Ashley Young and Hannibal have a heated exchange after a challenge that took the man and the ball.

  • 71. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

A host of United changes too…

Garner, Iqbal, Elanga, Wan-Bissaka, Telles, Hannibal, Malacia, Varane, Bailly and Chong come on.

Off come Shaw, Maguire, Lindelof, Dalot, Van de Beek, Fred, Bruno, Rashford, Martial and Sancho.

  • 66. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

Villa are making a host of changes here.

Kesler Hayden, Chambers, Young, Archer, Iroegbunam and Sanson are all on.

Cash, Carlos, Digne, Kamara, McGinn and Watkins make way.

  • 64. Manchester United 2-1 Aston Villa

    Bailey almost levels!

Bailey is absolutely electric down that right hand side.

He charges down the right hand side, and beats David De Gea, but his cutback towards Ollie Watkins is blocked brilliantly by Harry Maguire.
