That’s all from us!
A job done from Leipzig’s perspective, and Rangers will be filled with optimism for the second leg.
Join us again next week for coverage of the return fixture, take care in the meantime.
It’s Leipzig 1-0 Rangers.
Nkunku underwhelming.
He missed one absolute sitter, a header at the back post was off target, and his first touch let him down early.
It was not his night unfortunately, which could be a real shame for Leipzig, should Rangers pull this back in Glasgow.
However, don’t let this take away from the fact Nkunku is a special talent, he still showed flashes of excellence and technical skill, just a lack of composure when it mattered.
Tavernier full-time Interview
On the game and Leipzig’s goal:
“Conceding off a set piece… our organization wasn’t good, it cost us. Obviously a great strike but we could’ve prevented it. So we are disappointed in that.”
“…1-0 going to Ibrox we are still well in the game and we know what we can produce back at home with our fans with us.”
On being in this position before and the managers game plan:
“Away from home we wanted to take a good result back to Ibrox and it’s only 1-0 so we know we are more than capable to bring this in our favour. We know we can be better going forwards, we still created a couple of chances… Back at home we can put in another performance.”
Joe Aribo speaks out
On whether the team felt they could break down Leipzig:
“We felt like we had a few half chances but just didn’t get the break of the ball.”
Rangers had a few chances tonight, Ryan Kent was fantastic in particular.
It could be a very different game at the Ibrox.
Rangers on the comeback trail
They may have lost this one but it is not over just yet.
Don’t forget that they lost the first leg of the last round 1-0 against Braga, and this could almost suit them heading back to the Ibrox.
RB Leipzig may think they can hold onto their lead, but if they sit back and defend then Rangers will very likely get a goal at home.
Full Time. Leipzig 1 Rangers 0.
It is full time at the Red Bull Arena, with a late Angelino volley being the difference.
Stay with us for post match analysis of the game, and do not count Rangers out just yet, this tie is far from over.
Goldson and Tavernier yellow cards
90+2. Goldson and Tavernier receive yellow cards in quick succession.
Leipzig have a free kick on the far left side that comes to nothing.
Three added minutes.
90. Three added minutes here.
Two more Leipzig changes.
89. Leipzig look to the bench again.
It is two more changes for the side in red and white.
Henrichs and Nkunku have left the field, to allow Poulson and Mukiele to enter the fray.
Leipzig to see it out
88. Leipzig will be looking to defend for the rest of this tie, you had a feeling they might grab a winner tonight, and have done so in spectacular fashion.
Volleyed home by Angelino
85. The Spaniard smashes home a volley into the bottom left corner when it falls to him on the edge of the box.
It is 1-0 Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena, and it is fair to call it deserved.
Goal. 1-0 Leipzig.
85. It’s Angelino on the volley!
Rangers double change
83. Rangers are making a double substitution now.
It is Jack and Aribo coming off.
This allows Arfield and Sands to join the action.
Can they nick it?
83. Both teams looking to nick a late goal, but it is still Leipzig who look the more likely.
Benjamin Henrichs is the latest Leipzig player to claim a penalty to no avail.
Desperate times call for desperate measures I suppose.
Nkunku misses AGAIN.
80. He will be thinking it is not his night.
A cross comes in from the left hand side and Nkunku wins the header at the back post.
It is by no means an easy chance, but a £50M rated attacker should be getting that on target.
Tavernier fuming
77. Tavernier does brilliantly to bring the ball out of defence but is forced to lump it to nobody, he needs an option coming out from the back, and expresses it to his team mates.
Kent effort
75. Kent receives the ball wide on the left hand side, he whips a shot towards the far post, but it is claimed easily by Peter Gulacsi.
Leipzig double change
73. After the chance of the match was squandered, Leipzig have made their first two changes.
Emil Forsberg has entered the fray, as well as Andre Silva.
It is Dani Olmo and Dominik Szoboszlai who make way.
A shocker.
70. It is reminiscent of Fernando Torres against Manchester United, he goes around McGregor, he just has to hit the target.
He has hit it high and wide of the goal.
Erik Ten Hag, Mikel Arteta, are you watching?
Sitter!
70. Nkunku has missed a sitter!
Rangers Change!
68. Rangers make the first substitution of the match, it is Fashion JR coming on for Wright in an attacking change for the Glasgow side.
Tricky Kent
68. He has been excellent for Rangers, and gets another silky nutmeg after a slip in his own half. Baller.
Leipzig look blunt.
67. They started off well in this game, looking promising in the first half especially.
But since the start of the second half their pace in the build up has slowed down, and not as many chances are being created.
Surely Leipzig boss Tedesco will be looking towards the substitutes bench in order to gain an edge in this one.
More of the same…
64. Adams looks for the foul this time, and his shorts come down with him.
The spectators at the Red Bull Arena didn’t expect to see that tonight.
Nkunku down, again.
61. He might be an excellent goalscorer and playmaker, but he is going down under the slightest of challenges tonight as he looks for another foul.
The referee waves away his claim once more.
