Man City fans troll Sir Alex Ferguson with cheeky banner while legendary Man Utd manager watches derby destruction

MANCHESTER CITY fans trolled Sir Alex Ferguson with a cheeky banner in the derby win.

The legendary Manchester United boss was in the stands at the Etihad as his former side were thumped 4-1 by the ‘noisy neighbours’.

And he was mocked by a four-word message unfurled by the home supporters.

The banner read: “Not in my lifetime.”

The quote references a comment from Ferguson way back in 2009.

He was asked if City could be the dominant force in Manchester and therefore make United underdogs in the derby.

But Fergie, whose Red Devils were champions at the time, was having none of it.

Since his retirement in 2013, though, United have failed to win the Premier League – whereas City have five titles in that time.

And City fans were understandably loving it on Sunday as Pep Guardiola’s men ran riot against their arch-rivals.

Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez scored two each as United crumbled.

Commenting on the sign, one City fan wrote on Twitter: “How embarrassing for Ferguson that he’s back at the Etihad and we pull out this.

“I bet he regrets saying those four words so much. Statement banner.”

And interim United boss Ralf Rangnick admitted there is a gulf in class between the two teams right now.

He said: “It’s difficult against a team like Man City, once you are 3-1 down against the best team in possession of the ball on the planet, it’s difficult.

“I cannot blame anyone for not having tried and put effort into that game, but it was difficult after the third goal.

“After 28 games you’re as far apart from each team as the table shows (22 points).

“The second half showed that if they are in their momentum and if they are 3-1 up then it is almost impossible to keep them away from your own goal.”
