Liverpool 2-2 Man City LIVE RESULT: De Bruyne earns share of spoils in Anfield thriller – Premier League reaction

LIVERPOOL have drawn with Man City in a thrilling Premier League clash.

The Reds were dominated by Pep Guardiola’s men throughout the first half but a brilliant counter-attack saw Sadio Mane net the opening goal on the hour mark.

However, Phil Foden then drove an equaliser into the bottom corner to keep up his record of scoring against Liverpool every time he’s faced them.

But Mo Salah responded with an excellent run before firing past Ederson before Kevin de Bruyne had the final word by firing in another equaliser.

  • HIGHLIGHTS

  • MO SALAH:

“I think we played not very good in the first half but in the second half we played well. They had a few chances as well and this is the result so we have to accept it.

“We struggled in the first half but at least it was 0-0. We spoke in the dressing room and made improvement in the second half.

“(My goal) It would’ve been more special if we won the game. It was a good goal, nothing much to say.”

  • PEP ON MILNER

Strong words from the Man City boss, saying that Milner wasn’t sent off because it was at Anfield.

  • REDS RECORD

  • PHIL FODEN:

It had it all, it was end to end at times. It was a brilliant game, we’re happy to get a draw and could’ve won it on another day.

It shows our character. We’ve not won here a lot. We went behind and carried on playing our football.

  • AS IT STANDS

The big winners today are Chelsea. They will top the table headed into the international break.

Liverpool are second a point adrift and Man City are in third, just one further back.

  • SAME, GARY

  • SPOILS SHARED

It’s a point apiece and both teams will probably settle for that.

Liverpool were not at the races in the first half and lucky not to be out of the game, and also to finish with 11 men on the field.

City have fought back twice to earn a point at their title rivals having got three at Chelsea last week.

Generous applause from Anfield for both teams. A brilliant game.

  • FT: LIVERPOOL 2-2 CITY

What a game. I need a lie down.

  • LIVERPOOL 2-2 CITY

90, Neither side settling for a point.

First Fabinho runs forward and the crowd urge him to shootout, but he’s tackled.

And then Walker bursts into the box at the other end but De Bruyne can’t find him.

If there’s no crowd in here, these teams take a point. So good to have fans back.

  • LIVERPOOL 2-2 CITY

90, 4 minutes of added time.

    DON’T. LET. THIS. END.

  • LIVERPOOL 2-2 CITY

86, What a block from Rodri!

Fabinho had an open goal after Ederson came for a free-kick and got nowhere near.

Fabinho took a touch and went to slot the ball home, but in came Rodri with a last-gasp slide to deny him.

  • LIVERPOOL 2-2 CITY

83, Fabinho gets a booking for bringing down Silva.

Anfield is almost speechless at what it’s seen from both teams here.

    It’s not over yet.

  • LIVERPOOL 2-2 CITY

81, Man City have come again and they’re level again. A stunning response.

Foden got in down the left again and he pulled the ball back I think towards Silva in the area.

It broke to De Bruyne on the edge of the box and he picked his spot in the far corner, albeit with the help of a small deflection.

    This is breathtaking.

  • GOALLLLLLLLL!!!!!

De Bruyne!!! It’s 2-2. Fantastic goal! WHAT A GAME!

  • LIVERPOOL 2-1 CITY

78, That’s insult to injury for Pep Guardiola.

He is shown a yellow card for his protests and that will make him feel no better.

The City boss is furious that Milner was still on the pitch and his side are now behind again.

To make matters worse, Milner has just been taken off and Gomez on in his place.

  • LIVERPOOL 2-1 CITY

76, From out of absolutely nothing, Salah has put Liverpool back in front.

He left two Man City defenders for dead and worked his way into the box before turning Dias inside out.

The Egyptian had a tight angle, but fired it into the far corner.

A simply brilliant goal – Liverpool back in front.

  • GOALLLLLLL!!!!!

Mo Salah!!! An incredible goal! 2-1 Liverpool.

  • LIVERPOOL 1-1 CITY

73, Milner has just brought down Bernardo, and somehow avoided a second yellow card.

Pep Guardiola is furious. That was a blatant booking.

Not even a VAR check. Milner stays on the pitch somehow.

  • LIVERPOOL 1-1 CITY

71, What a final 20 minutes we have in store.

My money is on a winner at either end, I don’t think this ends a draw.

  • LIVERPOOL 1-1 CITY

70, What a finish from Foden, from the tightest of angles he has picked out the bottom corner with a rasping shot.

Man City are level, they have responded.

Jesus made the run in from the right and slid it in to Foden down the left, and the local lad fired Pep’s men level.

  • GOALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!

    Phil Foden!! Man City level!

  • LIVERPOOL 1-0 CITY

68, Liverpool respond with Firmino coming on for Jota. So the familiar front three of Mane-Salah-Firmino are reunited.

Jesus has switched to the left flak for City, and he had a real chance just then to run at Milner and get his shot on goal, but he wasted it.

  • LIVERPOOL 1-0 CITY

65, 25 minutes to go and how will City respond?

Looks like we’re about to see Sterling come off the bench. Indeed he does come on to replace Grealish.

Jota, meanwhile, is booked for a foul on De Bruyne.

  • LIVERPOOL 1-0 CITY

61, Man City won’t believe they’re behind in this, but they didn’t take their chance in the first-half when they had Liverpool on the ropes.

They’ve started this second half like a team that are just soaking up pressure again.

Excellent from Klopp and Liverpool to reverse the momentum.
