GARETH SOUTHGATE will be offered a new extended contract — even if England are beaten by Germany on Tuesday.
The manager’s current £3million-a-year deal runs until the Qatar World Cup in December 2022.
But FA chief executive Mark Bullingham wants to tie Southgate down to the next Euros in Germany in 2024.
England face the Germans in the last 16 on Tuesday having topped their Group D, despite scoring just twice.
And Bullingham said: “We would love Gareth to carry on beyond this contract.
“We’ll get into that formal conversation after this tournament.
“But if you ask me now, I’d say ‘Yes, we’d like him to carry on’.
“Gareth has done a brilliant job, finishing top of the group, with a really solid defence and he’s done really well on and off the pitch, in every aspect.
“Our support is unwavering. We are 100 per cent behind Gareth.
“He knows how we feel about him. We want him to carry on.
BETTING SPECIAL: GET ENGLAND TO BEAT GERMANY AT 14/1
Regardless of Tuesday, absolutely. Regardless of the group stage of the tournament we would have wanted him to carry on.”
Southgate has been linked with the vacant Tottenham manager’s job and has insisted he wants another crack at club management, having not done so since being sacked by Middlesbrough almost 12 years ago.
Bullingham added: “We’re in a competitive world, I’m sure his name gets bandied around for every job but as far as I know he’s really committed to the job.
“The fact the World Cup is only 18 months away is also exciting.
“He’s got a brilliant long-term career in football and I know he might have other aspirations.
“I think he could do anything in the club world or the FA, absolutely.”
